A Toast To The French

Leave it to the French to turn stale bread into breakfast.

French toast was a big favorite with Diane Berry’s family when she was growing up on a dairy farm in Tillamook, Ore.

Today, her Farm Country Specialties in Astoria, Ore., produces packaged French toast mixes that include flour and various flavorings and spices, ready to combine with eggs and milk.

There’s Country Original, Lemon Poppy Seed (pictured), Apple Almond and, coming soon, Orange Hazelnut.

Price: About $4.50 for 8 ounces (makes about 20 slices).

Available: In Spokane at Harry O’s Fresh Market and Huckleberry’s Fresh Markets; also by mail order ($10 minimum) at (503) 325-9331.
