Three High School Students Receive Wwp Scholarships

Local high school students recently received $1,500 Washington Water Power Mindpower Generation Scholarships.

Students and their schools are:

Dawn J. Karber, St. Maries High School; Brenda J. Ludwick, Wallace High School; and Maurika “Mauri” S. Brooks, Priest River High School.

The focus of the Mindpower Scholarships is to assist and encourage students who do not qualify for academic scholarships or financial aid to pursue higher education goals.

Paul Otte, Rathdrum, has been chosen as the winner of Century Communication’s annual Community Scholarship competition and will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship.

Otte, who was chosen from 65 students nationwide, was cited for outstanding academic performance and community service.

He also participates in National Honor Society, choir, theater, Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Idaho Board of Education recently selected local high school seniors to receive State of Idaho Academic Scholarships of $2,700, which are renewable every year for four years if high academic standards are maintained.

Anna Zemke, a Post Falls High School student and daughter of Steven and Diane Zemke, plans to major in biochemistry; Seth Gibbon, a Post Falls High School student and son of Linda Karlgaard, plans to major in engineering; Jennifer Boyd, a student at Kootenai High School and daughter of Michael and Karen Boyd, plans to major in pharmacy; Joel Gibler, a Kamiah High School student and son of Greg and Carol Gibler, plans to major in computer science/programming; Daniel Lucas, a student at Clearwater Valley High School in Kooskia, and son of Cameron and Anita Lucas, plans to major in computer science; Luinda Palmer a Clearwater Valley High School student and daughter of Brian and Margo Palmer, plans to major in fashion design and production; and Julie Woolverton, a Potlatch High School student and daughter of Jerry and Theresa Woolverton, plans to major in office and business technology.
