Ex-Citadel Coach Goes To Cfl
Former Citadel football coach Charlie Taaffe was hired as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
Taaffe, fired from The Citadel after a second arrest on charges of driving under the influence, was the winningest coach in the school’s history, guiding the Bulldogs to three playoff appearances and a Southern Conference title.
Jon Kitna threw three touchdown passes and ran 39 yards for another score as the Barcelona Dragons beat the Amsterdam Admirals 28-21 in WLAF action in Barcelona, Spain.
The Dragons (4-1) took a 21-0 lead on Kitna’s three scoring throws. He threw a 6-yarder to Tyree Davis in the first quarter and followed that with touchdown plays of 31 yards and 10 yards to Sheddrick Wilson, the latter 1:55 into the second quarter.
In another WLAF game, former soccer star Clive Allen kicked three field goals and an extra point as the London Monarchs beat the Scottish Claymores 16-8 in London.
With 2:47 left in the first quarter, the former Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham striker, who also played five times for England’s national team, kicked a 30-yard field goal.
