‘Goodfella’ Nabbed On Parole Violation

Associated Press

The mobster whose autobiography inspired the movie “Goodfellas” is back in jail, nabbed in an airport hotel room on a parole violation while in the New York area for radio and TV appearances.

Henry Hill said Friday he could have avoided arrest if he had not gotten drunk after 17 months of sobriety and missed his flight back to California.

“I keep stumbling because of my alcoholism, which leads me to other addictions,” said Hill, who came to New York for appearances on Howard Stern’s nationally broadcast radio and television shows and to tape a Geraldo Rivera interview. “I screwed up.”

His book “Wise Guys,” written with crime writer Nicholas Pileggi, told of his mob exploits, including the $5.8 million 1978 Lufthansa heist at New York’s Kennedy Airport, the largest cash haul ever in a U.S. theft.

Ray Liotta played Hill in the movie, a “very accurate” portrayal of his life, Hill said.

The 53-year-old Hill testified against his partners in crime in the early 1980s after entering the federal witness protection program.
