Stevens Seeks Library Input

From Staff And Wire Reports

Trustees for the new Stevens County Rural Library District are conducting meetings throughout the county to find out what people want from the library system they voted last November to create.

The trustees also will share their views on what needs to be done - and what won’t be done. Initially, the trustees plan to spend their limited income on acquiring books and other materials, not constructing buildings.

Communities are being asked to provide buildings.

“Communities that can provide secure, heated, accessible, maintained space with restrooms for initial facilities, and who demonstrate strong support for library service, are likely to see library service in their areas first,” spokesman Walt Kloefkorn said.

Meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. are scheduled: Tuesday at Orient Elementary School, Wednesday at Onion Creek Elementary; Thursday at Mary Walker High School in Springdale; May 20 at the Williams Valley Grange Hall near Clayton; May 21 at the Colville Community Center; May 28 at the Arden fire station; June 3 at the Northwest Alloys meeting room near Addy; and June 5 at Tum Tum Community Center.

Meetings in the Ford-Wellpinit and Marcus-Evans areas are still being arranged. Trustees also plan a series of meetings with local government leaders. , DataTimes
