Kaiser, Reynolds Unable To Strike Deal

From Staff And Wire Reports

Kaiser Aluminum Corp. Thursday said previously announced plans to buy a Reynolds Metals Co. plant in Illinois have died because the two companies could not reach final agreement.

The heavy gauge sheet-and-plate factory in McCook, Ill., had been touted as a complement to Kaiser’s Trentwood flat-rolled mill, which produces light-gauge, heat-treated products for the aerospace and transportation industries.

Officials declined to elaborate on why the sale was called off.

However, Kaiser’s plan to buy Reynold’s extrusion plant in Bellwood, Va., is proceeding, pending approval from regulators and company boards of directors.

The sale of Bellwood, which was announced last month, is expected to close before June 30.
