Albert ‘Abe’ Poffenroth Spokane

Memorial service for Albert Harold “Abe” Poffenroth, former football coach at Eastern Washington University and Central Washington University, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Poffenroth, 79, died Thursday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree and later earned a master’s degree from Washington State University.

He was assistant and head football coach at EWU from 1946 to 1951, and was dean of men at EWU from 1951 to 1955.

He became the head football coach at Central Washington University from 1955 to 1958, and served as chairman of the physical education department at CWU from 1955 to 1980.

Mr. Poffenroth was a captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Shriner.

Survivors included his wife, Donna Poffenroth; three sons, Brian Poffenroth of Vancouver, Wash., Curt Poffenroth of Redmond, Wash., and Mike Poffenroth of Spokane; three sisters, Alvena Hiibner, Marie Davis and Betty Linhart, all of Spokane; and a brother, Bob Poffenroth of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Georgia Kennedy Spokane

Service for Georgia E. Kennedy, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Kennedy, who was born in Gifford, Idaho, died Saturday.

A 60-year Spokane resident, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by three brothers, Kenneth, Allan and Robert Summers, all of Lewiston; two sisters, Mildred Taylor of Seattle and Dorothy Crozier of Lewiston; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Dennis Farris Spokane

No service will be held for Dennis W. Farris, 64, at his request. There will be private inurnment. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Farris, who was born in Bakersfield, Calif., died Thursday.

He had lived in Spokane for 50 years and worked as an automobile salesman.

Mr. Farris was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Bessie (Griffith) Farris; two sons, Mitch and Darrell Farris, both of Otis Orchards; a sister, Saundra of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Neuhauser Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy May Neuhauser, 84, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1435. Burial will be at the Spokane Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Neuhauser, who was born in Dickson, Tenn., died April 26.

She moved to Grand Coulee in 1937 and to Spokane in 1962.

Mrs. Neuhauser had worked as a dishwasher at the Plantation Restaurant and was a member of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union Local 400. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 1435.

Survivors include two sons, William Neuhauser of Moorhead, Minn., and Charles Neuhauser of Spokane; three brothers, William and Clyde Neuhauser, both of Clinton, Iowa, and Dean Neuhauser of Phoenix; three sisters, Grace Dean of Clinton, Verna Steinbeck of Topeka, Kan., and Juanita Sterbenz of Rockford, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Russell Kyle Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Russell C. Kyle, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Community Congregational Church in Priest River. ShermanKnapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kyle, who was born on a dairy farm near Post Falls, died last Tuesday.

He was a graduate of Post Falls High School and served in the Air Force for 35 years.

In the early 1970s, Mr. Kyle and his wife, Grace, moved to Priest River. She died in 1994.

He was a member of the Hoodoo Hustlers 4-H, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Edgemere Grange, Priest River Yacht Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Elizabeth Magnuson Citrus Heights, Calif.

Private service for Elizabeth R. (Moddern) Magnuson, 80, will be held today in Sacramento, Calif. East Lawn Mortuary at Sacramento is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Magnuson, a former longtime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was born in Chewelah, Wash., and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

In Spokane, she had worked for South Grand Cleaners for 20 years.

Her husband, Gustaf Magnuson, died in 1987.

She is survived by a son, Jack Magnuson of Roseville, Calif., a sister, Marjorie Manchester of Portland; and two grandchildren.

Sylvia Bossingham Pinehurst, Idaho

Service for Sylvia May Bossingham, 75, will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will take place at the Hunt Cemetery in Kingston, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Bossingham, who was born in Oklahoma, died Friday.

In the 1930s she moved to North Idaho and became a certified nurses assistant.

Ms. Bossingham worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, retiring in 1986.

Ms. Bossingham was a member of the Pythian Sisters and served as a Blue Bird leader.

Survivors include a son, John Bailey of Pinehurst; three daughters, Kathleen Orsburn and Shirley Longley, both of Pinehurst, and Ellen Marquardt of Smelterville, Idaho; a brother, Ed Bailey of Post Falls; a sister, Mary Scott of Kennewick; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Thompson Springdale, Wash.

Service for Marilyn Fay Thompson, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will be at the Springdale Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson, who was born in Wallace, died Saturday.

She lived in Spokane and, for the past 11 years, in Springdale.

Mrs. Thompson had worked at Eastern State Hospital as a housekeeper and was an Avon representative. She was a member of the Women of the Moose of Loon Lake, Wash.

Survivors include a daughter, Melani Miller of Springdale; a son, Richard Miller of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.; and three sisters, Betty Katon, Anita Maxwell and Shirley Logan, all of Spokane.

Sharon (Renford) McDermott Spokane

Service for Sharon Kay (Renford) McDermott, 39, was Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial was at the Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. McDermott, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She graduated from Rogers High School and from Spokane Community College with an associate degree in dental assisting. She had worked for several local dentists.

Mrs. McDermott was a member of the Spokane Dog Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her parents, John and Betty Renford of the Spokane Valley; and a brother, John Renford of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Edna Bennett Bothell, Wash.

Private burial was held for Edna V. (Stephens) Bennett, 83, at the Pines Cemetery in Spokane.

Mrs. Bennett, a former Spokane resident, died April 15.

She was born in Cunningham, Wash., and had lived in Spokane until 1987. She moved to Kirkland, Wash., before recently moving to Bothell.

Mrs. Bennet was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Her husband, Clarence Bennett, died in 1965.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Nienhueser of Walla Walla and Sally Mudgett of Langley, Wash.; a sister, Mildred Learned of Seattle; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice in Seattle.

Clyde Englund Spokane

Service for Clyde B. Englund, 74, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Englund, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

He had served in the Army during World War II and was a manager for Bearing and Rim Supply.

Mr. Englund was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1474 and the German American Society.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Edith Englund; one daughter and five stepchildren; two brothers, Fred Englund of Seattle and LeRoy Englund of Spokane; a granddaughter and several stepgrandchildren.

Ronald Davis Spokane

Memorial service for Ronald L. Davis, 58, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in Rapid City, S.D., Mr. Davis died Friday.

He had lived in Spokane for 41 years and worked as a cook in various restaurants. Mr. Davis was a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Jane Davis; four daughters, Cami, Wendy, Tanya and Angie Davis, and a son, Melvin Davis, all of Spokane; a sister, Delilah ; and 16 grandchildren.
