Dollar Ends Mostly Higher
The dollar touched a 38-month high against the mark Monday and settled mostly stronger in other foreign-exchange dealings on leaked government data from Germany showing persistently weak employment.
But the dollar ended slightly lower vs. the yen, reflecting trader reluctance to sell the Japanese currency ahead of potentially market-moving trade data to be released by Japan this week. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin’s warning Sunday about the dangers of a weak yen further discouraged yen sales.
