The symposium, May 9-10, will address environmental ethics and the connections between spiritual life and one’s ability to effect change in the world.

Also participating will be Eva Boyd, granddaughter of a chief of the Spokane Indian Tribe; Franklin Fong, Gonzaga University biology professor; and the Rev. Linda Hart, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

The symposium will be 7-9 p.m. Friday and 3:30-9 p.m. next Saturday. Cost is $10, which includes dinner next Saturday. To register, call the church at 325-6383.

Remembering the Holocaust

Helen and Kuba Beck, Holocaust survivors, will be a part of what promises to be a powerful and moving ceremony in observance of Holocaust Remembrance Week.

“Righteous Among the Nations” will mourn the 6 million Jews killed and honor the thousands of non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

The 7 p.m. candlelight service Sunday at Temple Beth Shalom, 1322 E. 30th, will also include ministers of several denominations.

The Becks were among those saved by Oskar Schindler, subject for the movie, “Schindler’s List.” They were brought to Spokane from their Poughkeepsie, N.Y., home by the temple, Gonzaga University and Fairchild Air Force Base.
