Tarrah Brown Colville Year: Junior Sport: Softball Position: Pitcher
Win and lose, Tarrah Brown had a week to remember.
On April 22, Colville’s third-year pitcher struck out 17 during a nine-inning, 1-0 loss to East Valley and ace Rebecca Triplett.
Three days later against West Valley, the Frontier League’s most potent offense, Brown pitched a 2-0 no-hitter and a 2-1 two-hitter as Colville tacked the first two losses on the league-leading Eagles. In 10 other league games, all wins, WV has outscored rivals 144-5.
As good as last week was, Brown selects another game as her favorite.
“I think the best I pitched was against Shadle (a 3-1, non-league no-hitter on April 11),” Brown said. “But the West Valley games were the best the whole team has played together. They really backed me up.”
Colville is well-stocked with Browns. Dad Clyde is in his third year of coaching the team, senior Heather plays center field and freshman Brooke pitches for the junior varsity.
The Browns moved to Colville from the Salem (Ore.) area five years ago. Tarrah plays soccer and basketball, but softball takes precedence.
In 65 innings, Brown has allowed 26 hits and struck out 96.
“She’s added a new pitch this year,” Clyde Brown said. “It’s kind of a screwball that jams hitters.”
Colville and WV advanced to state last year. Clyde Brown said EV also belongs in that elite company.
