Ml’s Josh Greene Undefeated In League

Josh Greene, the No. 1 player at Medical Lake, remains undefeated in Northeast A League tennis.

Greene easily defeated Freeman’s Josh Brown 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday. Greene also beat Dave Dillingham of Lakeside 6-1, 6-4 on April 22.

“He was just a little stronger than Dave, ” said Cardinal coach LeRoy Lemaster. Lemaster believes Greene should do well at the upcoming Inland Empire Tournament.

Medical Lake’s dynamic duo of Josh Matel and Jeff Raicot also have a perfect record. Matel and Raicot defeated Jason Wing and P.K. Lipp of Freeman 6-1, 6-0, and Nate Hickman and Carmon Gardella of Lakeside 6-3, 6-1.

More tennis

The Cheney boys defeated West Valley 6-1 Friday in a Frontier League match, while the WV girls beat Cheney 5-2. The Eagles’ Keli Heidenson defeated Bryan Eggart 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Devin Otto and Keelan Dobbins of Cheney beat Jade Taylor and Rob Mitchell 6-2, 6-0.

The Blackhawks’ Cari Fockler struggled but finally came up with the win against Tiffany Miner of WV 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 7-5. Cheney’s Julie Brown and Amie Frederick lost their match to Lisa Chassey and Rani Johnson 6-2, 6-1.

In the Greater Spokane League, Ferris easily handled the University Titans 6-1 on Friday. Josh Dyck of Ferris defeated Ryan DeWert 6-0, 6-4, and the Saxons’ Jason Jess and Jeremy Lucke defeated Austin Sauer and Scot Klep 6-1, 6-1.

Soccer

Ferris clinched its first GSL soccer title by beating University 4-1 on Monday afternoon.

Aaron Crary scored the game-winning goal in the first half off a pass from Garth Cummings.

Lewis and Clark lost to Shadle Park 3-2 in overtime, ending its bid for the league title.

Justin Brynstad of LC tied the game with 10 minutes left before the Highlanders’ Eric Anderson sent the game into overtime 5 minutes later.

Cheney held off Riverside 4-3 on Friday. Ryan Waller scored the game winner with 5 minutes remaining. Waller finished with two goals for Cheney.

Nick Reynolds had a goal and an assist, and Paul Malisani added a goal for the Blackhawks.

East Valley upended Medical Lake 4-0 in a non-league game on Friday. EV scored three of its four goals on breakaways.

The Cardinals’ Matt Steele set up Carlos Simmons’ winning goal as Medical Lake defeated Pullman at home Friday.

Baseball

On Friday, LC’s Curtis Broderson hit a double and a home run and drove in five runs, but the Tigers couldn’t get past Shadle Park, falling 14-9.

In other games, University scored seven runs in the final inning to beat Ferris 12-11.

Chris Weaton had a grand slam in a six-run seventh inning as the Tigers beat Gonzaga Prep 7-3 on April 22. Jim Travis scored two runs and had two hits for LC.

A two-run homer by Tucker Urdahl in the fifth inning led the Blackhawks to a 7-4 win at Clarkston. Urdahl also picked up the win, striking out 11 and allowing only one earned run.

Matt Corrath went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
