Dance/Martial Arts Firm Moves

The Defense Arts Academy and Dance Emporium have moved to a new location on East Sprague.

Classes now are held in the former Video Unlimited store at the corner of McDonald and Sprague.

The 4,250-square foot building was renovated after the video store closed.

Owners Troy and Linda Allen decided to move from a storefront about a block to the west in order to accommodate more students.

The Allens and five instructors conduct martial arts, ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop dance classes.

Les Schwab to open new Valley store

Les Schwab will be opening its third Valley tire store in the former Sherwin Williams building in the University City Shopping Center parking lot.

Opening date is slated for June 1, said Danny Lennon, a marketing coordinator for the Spokane area.

Lennon said approximately seven to 10 new employees will be hired.

The U-City store’s manager and assistant manager will come from within the Les Schwab organization, he said.

“We’ve been interested in the location for some time,” he said. “We’ve always wanted to be there in the heart of the Valley.”

Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Women’s clothing store reopens

Savon’s Women’s Fashions has opened in a new location with a new owner.

Peggy Mitchell opened the shop two weeks ago at 11408 E. Sprague, the former location of Suzanne’s dress shop near Halpin’s.

Mitchell was an employee of Clint Rogel, who owned the Savon’s store in University City. She bought the right to use the shop’s name in February.

The boutique carries most of the same labels customers were accustomed to seeing at Savon’s in U-City, Mitchell said.

Two employees from the U-City store are now working for Mitchell.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays.

Hunting supply company moves

The Outlaw companies, which supply decoys and boats and offer guided hunting trips from Canada to Texas, have moved into the former Fasteners building at 624 N. Fancher.

Outlaw Decoys, Outlaw Marine, and Outlaw World Champion Hunts, formerly on Montgomery Avenue, moved in late March, said general manager Kurt Markson. The company’s new phone number is 532-4624.
