Blossom Just Wants To Hang Out With Her Buds
When it comes to show biz, as far as Mayim Bialik is concerned, the bloom is definitely off the rose.
After six years of dealing with her neurotic TV family, the former “Blossom” star is now juggling calculus and organic chemistry as a second-year neuroscience major at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“I’m very out of the business,” she tells People mag. “The attention I gave my acting career is the attention I’m giving my science life. It’s like there were two paths. I think I picked the harder one, but I picked the one more pleasing to my soul.”
Bialik occasionally bumps into fellow students Kerri Strug, the Olympic gymnast, and Jaleel White, who plays Urkel on “Family Matters.”
“Jaleel and I agreed that it’s weird - you can never just be a student like everybody else,” she said.
Loose talk
Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld”), on why you’ll never see a Newman spinoff series (in Entertainment Weekly): “That would be like having a steady diet of jalapeno peppers - you’d start burping after a couple of weeks, and that wouldn’t be pleasant.”
Actually, that sounds a little above Paar
Jack Paar turns 79 today.
The show stopped pushing the envelope long ago
Former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Luke Perry says Fox should cancel its famous zip code. “I am not going to bite my tongue and say, ‘I think this is good material,’ if I don’t think this is good material,” Perry tells TV Guide. “Somebody has to have enough sense to pull the plug and say, ‘You know what? It’s great what we’ve got now. But if we go any further it’s going to be less and less and less.”’
With Eve Plumb as Louise, and Susan Olsen as Irlene
You’ve been missing Maureen McCormick, the former small-screen Marcia Brady? Good news: she plays Barbara Mandrell in an upcoming television movie for CBS, and stars in an ABC series pilot, “Teen Angel.”
At least there’s something laughable about him
Sitcom star Drew Carey says reports of his engagement are greatly exaggerated. While he has dated cosmetology student Elena Mazzucchelli, he tells TV Guide, both of them are also seeing other people and rumors that they’re getting married are “laughably untrue.”
He’ll be the candidate of the Soup Nazi Party
Kenny Kramer, the real-life model for Cosmo Kramer on “Seinfeld,” has decided to run for mayor of New York City. Kramer, who once lived across the hall from series co-creator Larry David, has been making ends meet by conducting bus tours of “Seinfeld” sites in Manhattan.
So … how are you and Carly getting along?
Chalk up another one for tacky talk host Kathie Lee Gifford. When James Taylor appeared on “Live With Regis and Kathie Lee” this week, Gifford asked about the health of his older brother, blues singer Alex Taylor. “I wish I could say he was doing well,” said Sweet Baby James. “Alex died about four years ago.”
