Charles ‘Bud’ Durkee Spokane

Visitation for Charles R. “Bud” Durkee, 64, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Durkee, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated from high school in Sandpoint and from the University of Idaho with a degree in business.

He served in the Army for two years and later worked as a field underwriter for Mutual of New York, specializing in insurance tax planning and tax shelter programs for more than 30 years.

He later worked for Bergeson and Wilson, Inc.

Mr. Durkee was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, the Spokane Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, the National Association of Life Underwriters, the Washington State Association of Life Underwriters, the Golden Key Society, the Spokane Estate Planning Council, the National Association of Health Underwriters, and the Eastern Washington Subcontractors and Suppliers Association.

Mr. Durkee received the “Man of the Year” award in 1974 from the Spokane Association of Life Underwriters. He was also a member of the Spokane Chapter of the American Society of the Chartered Life Underwriters/Chartered Financial Consultants receiving their “Distinguished Service Award” in 1990.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jean (Charbulak); a son, Gregg Durkee and a daughter, Gwenn Kubik, both of Spokane; a brother, George Durkee of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Medical Center Development Fund or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

Fred ‘Rusty’ Slaughter Spokane

Graveside service for Fred Russell “Rusty” Slaughter, 68, is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Slaughter, who was born in Long Beach, Calif., died Thursday.

He served in the Navy for 23 years and later worked for US West for 20 years. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Slaughter was a member of the Valley Elks Lodge No. 2328.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dawn; a son, John; a daughter, Maryal Maddux of Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Joris Walli LaCrosse, Wash.

Service for Joris O. Walli, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Selbu Lutheran Church near LaCrosse. Burial will be at the Selbu Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walli, who was born near LaCrosse, died Friday.

He attended high school in Limon, Colo., and later returned to LaCrosse.

In 1941 he married Mary Johnstone in Seattle and they farmed in the LaCrosse/Ritzville area.

He was a member of Selbu Lutheran Church, the LaCrosse Lions Club, the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and the Whitman County and State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Walli of Ritzville, Wash.; a brother, Justin Walli of Sunnyside, Wash.; two sisters, Magna Slind of Sequim, Wash., and Astrid Korsvold of Limon; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Selbu Lutheran Church or the Washington Wheat Foundation of Ritzville.

Robert Allen Spokane

Memorial service for Robert Ford “Bob” Allen, 59, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen, who was born in Kellogg, died Thursday while on business in Kennewick.

He had lived in Spokane for 15 years and worked as a salesman for Pohl Spring Works.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Jeanne; a daughter, Debbie Baltzell, and a son, Ron Allen, both of Spokane; his mother, Georgia Allen of Clarkston, Wash; two brothers, Dale Allen of Moscow, Idaho, and Ronald Allen of Clarkston; and three grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Inland Empire Division.

Edwin Mindermann Spokane

Memorial service for Edwin R. Mindermann, 61, will be at 4 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mindermann, who was born in Frazee, Minn., died Thursday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and worked for Goodwill Industries for 12 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Vernon Mindermann of Kennewick and Loren Mindermann; and three sisters, Evelyn Ruse of Newport, Wash., Marilyn Harrison of Chattaroy and Kathryn Rojan of Anchorage, Alaska.
