Family Ombudsman To Discuss Mission

From Staff Reports

Washington families and children under state supervision have a new protector.

The Office of the Family and Children’s Ombudsmen was created last week to protect children in state custody, and adults under supervision for abuse or neglect, from harmful treatment by the state Department of Social and Health Services.

Formed in response to a sex-abuse scandal at the state-run OK Boys Ranch, the office has the authority to investigate state agencies and recommend sanctions.

Ombudsman Vickie Wallen will introduce herself and discuss her mission at a public meeting at 7 tonight at West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt.
