Central Methodist Will Offer Kidstown Camp
The Kidstown program is returning to Central United Methodist Church this summer.
Kidstown is a one-day-a-week camp for kids in the first through sixth grades. The camp will be held each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9 through Aug. 20.
Activities planned for the camp include crafts, games, Bible lessons and short field trips. The kids will learn about Christ and how to get along with others, says youth and family ministries Director Craig Geis.
“Hopefully they’ll have a wonderful time,” Geis said.
Transportation to and from the camp is available if requested in advance. Families are asked to register their children by calling the church office at 838-1431.
The day camp is free, but donations will be accepted.
For more information, call the church, which is located at 518 W. Third.
Rights observer will speak
The Unitarian Universalist Church will host a special presentation from Heather Miksch next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Miksch is a human rights observer who has been living in the village of La Quetzal in Guatemala.
The village has a population of about 1,000 refugees who returned from Mexico after being forced to flee Guatemala during a violent campaign launched by the Guatemalan army in the early 1980s.
Miksch lived among the locals as an international observer to ensure their human rights. The people in the village are still in danger from the army and other groups.
All are invited to attend the presentation at the church, located at 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive. Admission is free.
For more information, call the church at 325-6383.
