After a relatively slow start to the women’s Advil Mini Marathon 10-kilometer race in New York’s Central Park, Tegla Loroupe of Kenya, a two-time winner of the race, won easily in 31 minutes 45 seconds.

Loroupe’s fellow Kenyan, Lornah Kiplagat, finished second in 31:54. Elana Meyer of South Africa, 30, who won a silver medal in the 10,000 meter in the 1992 Olympics, was third in 32:08.

Canadian Olympic champion Donovan Bailey will run June 29 against Britain’s former Olympic 100-meter champion Linford Christie and six others in an $81,500 winner-take-all 150-meter race. Christie has beaten Bailey twice over 150 meters and holds the world’s fastest time at the distance - 14.97 seconds.

Donald G. Morrison of UCLA has been named president of the Pacific-10 Conference for the 1997-98 school year. John V. Kasser of California and Marie T. Tuite of Washington were named vice presidents.
