Lawyer Optimistic On Same-Sex Marriages

From Staff And Wire Reports

A lawyer challenging Hawaii’s ban on same-sex marriages says such marriages eventually will be legal in Montana.

“Just as we ended race discrimination in marriage 30 years ago, I’m hopeful this year we’ll see the beginning of the end of sexual discrimination in marriage,” Evan Wolfson, a lawyer for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, told reporters after he arrived here for events sponsored by Pride!, a gay-rights organization.

About 500 participants were expected at the various events.

At least seven couples are expected to participate in a ceremony today recognizing their unions. The ceremony has no legal standing and violates no state laws.
