Batter … Up

Baseball impresario Mike Veeck is up to his family’s old tricks again. The son of baseball legend Bill Veeck, who once sent a midget up to the plate, wanted to liven things in the peanut gallery for his Class A Charleston, S.C., RiverDogs. However, his promotional plan of a free vasectomy in honor of Father’s Day didn’t go over well. Among fans complaining was Bishop David Thompson, a season-ticket holder who is head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston. Veeck’s gonna stick with Elvis.
