Pilot Dies After Copters Collide

Compiled From Wire Services

Two helicopters collided Sunday while flying off the southern coast of Louisiana and crashed, killing one pilot and injuring the second.

The cause of the collision wasn’t immediately known.

Investigators were waiting to talk to the surviving pilot, who was treated at a hospital and released.

“Witnesses say he was just shook up,” Sheriff Ray Lemaire said.

The pilot managed to climb out of his helicopter, owned by Air Logistics of New Iberia, after it landed in the Intracoastal Waterway, Lemaire said.

The second helicopter, from Houston Air of Pearland, Texas, crashed into a nearby marsh. The Houston Air chopper was headed to Cameron, about 70 miles west of Intracoastal City. The second had just taken off from New Iberia.
