Milosevic Renamed Yugoslav President
Slobodan Milosevic switched jobs Wednesday, dropping his title of president of Serbia and emerging as president of the Yugoslav federation after a swearing in ceremony in the federal Parliament.
Intent on prolonging his 10-year reign but barred by the constitution from serving again as president of Serbia, Milosevic maneuvered to take the Yugoslav presidency, until now a figurehead job.
After intense bargaining with leaders in Montenegro, which with Serbia makes up what is left of Yugoslavia, Milosevic managed last week to push through a majority vote in Parliament for his appointment as federal president.
