Braugher Leaving ‘Homicide’
Enough accolades. Enough attention. Enough already.
Andre Braugher, repeatedly called “the best actor on television” by TV critics, says this will be his last year as steel-willed Detective Frank Pembleton on NBC’s “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
“After years with the show the characterization could begin to take over Andre - rather than Andre playing Frank,” Braugher said Sunday night in Pasadena, where he accepted his award for Individual Achievement in Drama at the 13th annual Television Critics Association awards ceremony.
“I have to make a little room for Andre to explore the things he needs to do,” Braugher said. “I’d love to get back on the stage.”
Shakespeare-seasoned Braugher cited “Othello” and “Macbeth” as two plays on his wish list. Those classic roles seem no more demanding than his story arc last season on “Homicide,” in which Pembleton struggled to recover from a near-deadly stroke.
