Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing

From Staff And Wire Reports

A single-engine plane made an emergency landing Sunday night north of Spokane, said Spokane County sheriff’s deputy Dave Reagan.

No one was injured, but the plane was destroyed, Reagan said.

Flown by Ronald Ferguson, 50, of Spokane, the plane had left Spokane International Airport shortly after 4 p.m.

There was one passenger, Ferguson’s wife.

After the plane’s engine quit, Ferguson aimed the aircraft for Five Mile Road near its intersection with Johansen Road.

Ferguson’s intent was to land on the road, Reagan said.

However, he was forced to touch down in a field west of Five Mile Road. The plane bounced under two power lines and over the road and came to a stop in another field east of Five Mile, Reagan said.
