The Senate defeated an effort Wednesday to reopen a multi-city competition for berthing the USS Missouri, the historic battleship that has been docked at Bremerton. In a 53-46 vote, the Senate turned down representatives from several states, including Washington, in the competition to reopen the battle for the gallant war horse. The Navy last year chose Pearl Harbor in Honolulu as the new home for the memorial. “I am outraged at the Navy’s lack of objectivity and its indifference to fairness,” Sen. Slade Gorton said.
