Orbitz The New Soft Drink You Can Chew, Too

Rick Bonino Food Editor

There was a time when finding something floating in your drink was a cause for concern. But today, it’s the marketing gimmick behind the new Orbitz soft drinks from Clearly Canadian.

Orbitz, which comes in orange/vanilla, raspberry citrus, blueberry/ melon/strawberry and pineapple/banana/cherry/coconut, features floating gobs of colored gel that are the same density as the surrounding liquid. It’s aimed at ages 12 to 17, and when we presented it to The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel, the only person to give it more than a two-star rating was one of our newest members, 13-year-old Christie Coleman.

Like they say, youth will be served - and if this is what’s being served, they can have it.

Comments: “I don’t like any soft drink I have to chew - too gimmicky! Watered-down Kool-Aid flavor.” - Beverly Smick

“For kids only. Adults won’t be able to get past the strange blobs (unless they are strange, too.)” - Madilyn Hutchison Foco
