Smu Wins Record Shootout

Two NCAA women’s basketball records were set Saturday in Southern Methodist’s 127-125 four-overtime victory over Texas Christian.

The teams combined for 252 points, surpassing the NCAA record of 243 points set by Virginia and North Carolina in a triple-overtime game in 1991.

TCU set a record for most points scored in a losing effort, replacing Georgetown’s 114-point record set in a 1991 loss to Providence.

The game is the seventh to reach four overtimes.

TCU is coached by former Gonzaga coach Mike Petersen.
