Jayhawks Hold Sway

Compiled From Wire Services

Kansas, the lone unbeaten team in Division I, led The Associated Press men’s college basketball rankings for the eighth straight week and was the first unanimous No. 1 since Duke in the 1991-92 season.

For the first seven weeks of their run, the Jayhawks (18-0) had Wake Forest right behind them, but the Demon Deacons (13-1) lost to Maryland on Sunday and fell to fourth. Clemson (16-1) moved up to No. 2 and Kentucky (16-2) jumped two places to No. 3.

Kansas received all 71 first-place votes and 1,775 points from the national media panel.

Colorado (14-3) jumped into the Top 25 at No. 18, the Buffaloes’ first ranking since the 1968-69 season.

The Top 10 in women’s basketball is taking on a stronger Atlantic Coast Conference slant.

First it was just Virginia, then North Carolina moved in. Monday, the ACC gained a third team in that elite group when Clemson claimed the No. 10 spot in The Associated Press poll.

It’s the highest ranking ever for Clemson (14-2), which has won 11 of its last 12 games. The ACC also has two teams in the bottom half of the poll - North Carolina State at No. 17 and Duke at No. 24.

There was no change at the top as Connecticut, Old Dominion and Stanford remained 1-2-3 in the voting by a national media panel.
