Dollar Rallies Sharply Again

The dollar surpassed 118 yen Monday for the first time in nearly four years and hit new 2-1/2-year highs against the mark and Swiss franc after Japanese and German officials implied the U.S. currency could rise further.

A slumping Japanese stock market and broad weakness in the mark against other European currencies also contributed indirectly to the strength in the dollar, building on its strong advance Friday.
