Deadly Avalanche Hits Alps Ski Resort
An avalanche swept over a ski resort at the foot of Mount Blanc on Saturday, killing at least one person, police said in this resort in the Alps. Six people were treated for minor injuries.
The avalanche rolled down from the Bremva glacier - at an altitude of 11,550 feet - and buried at least four skiers, an official for the paramilitary Carabinieri said.
Six people were treated at a hospital, but there were no serious injuries, rescue officials said.
The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there were no signs of anyone else buried under the snow in Val Veny ski area. The search was called off at nightfall and was scheduled to resume at dawn today.
