The Slice If You Want To Send An E-Mail Message, Press #1

What’s wrong with this picture?

Spokane’s Debbie Cole e-mailed a billing question to America Online. And she was instructed to call a 1-800 telephone number.

Annual reminder: Monster truck shows are held in any city big enough to have potholes. It doesn’t make a place a “Monster truck town.”

Slice answer: Reports about it are infrequent now. But “the Gypsies lawsuit” got the most votes from readers after we asked what ongoing local news story made their eyes glaze over fastest. “It was going on when I moved here 10 years ago and it still hasn’t gone away,” said one reader. “Sometimes I think the only way to escape it would be to move.”

Real-life horror: Those screams you hear are the panicked cries of passengers in barge-length cars driven by guys who seriously overrate their skill at parallel parking.

Sometimes there’s justice: At a recent high school girl’s basketball game, some loutish fans from one of the schools mercilessly taunted a player for the other team. It got so bad that the target of the highly personal jeering teared up.

She also single-handedly scored enough points to bury the opposition.

One thing about people who hang out in bars: At least they have something in their lives besides going to work and then going home and watching TV.

Well, that’s assuming they have a home. Or a job. And that they don’t just watch TV while at the bar.

On second thought, never mind.

The secret to being great in bed: Next time we poke fun at women’s magazines, remind us of this. In the spring ‘97 issue of Exercise & Health, a publication aimed at men, there’s a story headlined “50 Sex Tricks Women Want You to Know.” Tip No. 3 is “Don’t Smell Bad.”

Your mileage may vary: The average American worker commutes 10.6 miles, or 22 minutes, according to government statistics cited by The Wall Street Journal.

That’s long enough to change radio stations 4,000 times.

Wayne Wood wonders: “While surfing channels one through 76, how many times do you hear ‘Uh’?”

Today’s Slice question: How much do children’s names tell you about the parents?
