Al Coleman scored 32 points and made a school-record 10 of Texas’ school-record 18 3-pointers Sunday as the No. 22 Longhorns defeated Kansas State 104-63 in Austin, Texas.

Coleman, a senior making his first career start, was 10-of-14 from 3-point range and hit his 10th 3 with 1:04 left in the game before leaving to a standing ovation. The shooting spree helped the Longhorns (8-4, 2-1 Big 12) earn their first victory against the Wildcats (7-5, 0-2) in six meetings.

Kansas State struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 8 of 31, and Texas was able to capitalize in transition as Coleman was 4 of 5 from 3-point range and helped Texas build a 45-24 lead.

Coleman’s 10 3s surpassed the previous school record of nine set by Travis Mays against Rice in 1989. The team’s 18 3s beat the previous best of 16 made against DePaul in 1995.

Ira Clark added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kris Clack had 13 points and 17 rebounds for Texas.

Reggie Freeman, the Longhorns’ leading scorer, averaging 24 points a game, had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

Kansas State was led by Mark Young with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Coleman hit consecutive 3-pointers and Clack had two easy inside baskets as Texas took a 22-7 lead with a 15-2 run capped by a 3-pointer by Clack with 11:45 left in the first half.

The Terrapins improved their best Atlantic Coast Conference start in 22 seasons, getting a spark from reserve Matt Kovarik during a crucial second-half run to hold off the Wolfpack in Raleigh, N.C.

The Terrapins (14-1, 4-0 ACC), with the best 15-game start in school history, moved into a first-place ACC tie with Wake Forest with their 10th win over the Wolfpack in the last 11 meetings.

Maryland led by 10 at halftime and 39-32 with 13:22 left before the Wolfpack (8-4, 0-3) went on a 10-2 run behind Jeremy Hyatt’s six points to take its first lead of the game at 42-41.

However, Kovarik started Maryland’s decisive 11-1 spurt with a bank shot. He then assisted on Obinna Ekezie’s dunk and Keith Booth’s three-point play as the Terrapins made five straight shots to go up 52-43 with 5:09 left.
