Huskies Coach Says Ducks Fans Spit On Her
Women’s basketball
Washington coach June Daugherty says Oregon fans spat on her so much she had to towel off during the Pac-10 women’s basketball game between the Huskies and the Ducks at Eugene, Ore.
“I have a comment about coming here and getting spit on almost the entire game,” said Daugherty, her voice trembling during post-game comments after Oregon’s 67-60 victory Saturday night.
“I think it is really a lack of class by their fans,” she said. “It’s really gross on their part. These fans need to look at themselves. I had spit on me the whole game.”
Daugherty said fans spit on her while she was seated behind the Husky bench and when she returned to the court after halftime.
“I had to use a towel the whole (second) half to get the spit off me,” she said.
Elise Niemela, a Washington senior who grew up in Eugene and attended Oregon football, basketball and volleyball games, said: “The fans are always tacky like that. They show no class.
“For them to come and spit on my coach, I take great offense to that. I think it’s pathetic.”
