Group Says Doctors Aid In Kenya Torture
Torture is systematic in Kenya’s prisons, with health workers sometimes assisting in the electrocution, rape, beating and burning of prisoners, Amnesty International said today.
In one of the strongest attacks yet to highlight allegedly inhumane conditions in crammed Kenyan jails, the London-based human rights group said victims of torture included both men and women, regardless of age.
The majority of the victims are prisoners from the poorest sectors of society, it said.
Amnesty called on the Kenya Medical Association to make public its opposition to unethical practices by doctors, including collusion with torture.
