Lake City Rates High As Retirement Haven

From Staff And Wire Reports

A new retirement guide lists the Lake City as one of the top 50 places to spend the golden years.

Noting the area’s lakes, recreation and senior-friendly environment, “50 Fabulous Places to Retire in America” lauds Kootenai County’s medical facilities and scenic splendor, according to author Ken Stern.

The biggest drawback for retirees makes sense considering the past month: snow, and its tendency to arrive in large batches. The lack of public transportation make Coeur d’Alene the retirement choice for those who like to drive, Stern writes.

Such praise is nothing new to North Idaho, where retirees are among the fastest growing population segments. The Sandpoint/Priest River areas also have garnered plenty of attention from the retirement magazines and books.

Kootenai Medical Center, abundant and affordable golf courses and plenty of year-round outdoor activities helped the area make the cut, Stern wrote.
