Police Source Says Cowboys’ Erik Williams On Videotape
Police intend to conduct a sophisticated analysis of a seized videotape that depicts Dallas Cowboys’ lineman Erik Williams having sex with a woman who has accused him of rape but does not show star teammate Michael Irvin, a police source said Friday.
Investigators have not determined from the tape whether the encounter between Williams and a 23-year-old woman who says she was raped at gunpoint was consensual, said a source, who spoke only on condition of anonymity.
Police are trying to identify voices on the tape and recover portions of audio from the incident that they believe had been recorded over, the source said. The tape recovered from the camera appears to have been stopped at times, rewound and re-recorded during the encounter, the source said.
Top police officials declined to comment about evidence or investigative tactics. Police have not filed charges against Williams and Irvin, who were named as suspects in a reported Sunday night sexual assault at Williams’ home.
Norman Perle, director of the National Audio Video Forensic Laboratory in Northridge, Calif., said attempts to retrieve audio that has been recorded over rarely succeed.
