Shiite Muslim Leader, Son, Bodyguards Killed
Gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed a Shiite Muslim leader, his son and three bodyguards Tuesday in the eastern Punjab capital of Lahore.
Police said Zulfikar Hussein Naqvi, a candidate for the Punjab provincial legislature, was riding in a car downtown when gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire. Naqvi’s son Syed Ammar also was killed.
While police had no motive for the shooting, Naqvi belonged to the Shiite Movement, which has clashed with militant Sunni Muslim groups.
In recent months there have been several killings of Shiite and Sunni leaders in Punjab province.
