Dear Heloise: When I replace the check pad in my checkbook, I slip the deposit slips and three checks (along the back of the check pad) behind the plastic divider.

If I’m out shopping when I reach this plastic divider, I still have three checks to use. When I get home, I put the next pad in my checkbook if I did use all the checks, or I put it in my purse so it’s available when I do use the last one. Because I rarely use more than three checks when I’m shopping, I’ve never run out. - Linda Hammer, Omaha
