Coin Toss Settles Tied Election

Associated Press

Ferndale City Council member Yvonne Goldsmith called “tails,” tails it was and with that she won another term Friday.

Goldsmith and challenger Lloyd Zimmerman agreed to settle their deadlocked election battle with a coin toss.

Goldsmith had a one-vote lead on election night.

Zimmerman had a one-vote lead after a mandatory recount. Goldsmith paid for another recount and it came out a tie.

The toss was held at the Whatcom County auditor’s office. Superior Court Judge Michael Moynihan spent about five dollars on a 1921 silver dollar for the occasion, KGMI Radio reported.
