Luge Racer Retires

Three-time U.S. Olympic luge team member Duncan Kennedy, 30, retired from the sport because of continued bleeding in his brain stem.

Kennedy, the most decorated luger in U.S. history with 21 World Cup medals, made the decision less than two months before the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

Kennedy gained international attention in 1993 when he rescued black teammate Robert Pipkins from a group of neo-Nazi skinheads while attending a competition in Germany.
