It’s time to control umpires

I have had it ‘up to here’ with major league umpires. The last time I checked, they were still human beings; subject to errors and mistakes like the rest of us. This ‘holier than thou’ attitude they possess is beyond my ability to accept.

They make bad calls like any normal individual will do. I don’t think anyone has too great a problem with that fact. What I do have a problem with is the position they take when anyone disagrees with them, especially on balls and strikes. I agree there is a limit to what anyone can say to an umpire before they are asked to leave. However, now you can hardly look sideways without getting tossed.

In my opinion, the batter should have the opportunity to express his opinion, within reason, without getting ejected. I don’t see that being the case at all.

Watching games on TV, I can see why the batter would get upset with umpires. The only thing I see that is consistent is the fact they are inconsistent. They appear to have no idea where the strike zone is from one pitch to the next. What ever happened to the strike zone in the rule book? What is this ‘American League’ strike and ‘National League’ strike?

I think somebody or bodies better step up and get the control of the game in the hands where it belongs before the umpires ruin the game. Wm. J. Hiatt Spokane
