Man Impaled By Falling Tree

A man who cut down a tree Tuesday was impaled by a branch as the tree fell near Blue Creek Road north of Interstate 90, a firefighter said.

Details of the accident were sketchy, but a Kootenai County firefighter at the scene said the man suffered a serious wound to his chest.

The man, whose name was not released, was flown by helicopter to Kootenai Medical Center. His condition was unknown.

Kootenai County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Thomas said the man was cutting down the tree with a friend when the accident happened. The men expected the tree to fall in the opposite direction, Thomas said.
