Maytag Strikes Deal To Buy G.S. Blodgett

Maytag Corp. said Monday it has agreed to buy the G.S. Blodgett Corp., a commercial cooking products manufacturer based in Burlington, Vt., for about $93.5 million in cash.

Maytag said it would also retire Blodgett’s debt, which is currently about $49 million. The transaction is expected to be complete in two months, subject to regulatory approval.

Blodgett was founded in Burlington in 1848 and currently operates six manufacturing plants - four in Vermont and one each in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. It employs 750 workers.

The company specializes in making commercial ovens, fryers and charbroilers for the food service industry.
