Angels’ Dickson Fools Red Sox

Associated Press

It was hard for the Boston Red Sox to believe that Anaheim rookie Jason Dickson had a sore arm.

“He pitched great today. That’s all I can go by,” Boston manager Jimy Williams said of Dickson, who held the major leagues’ top hitting team to seven hits over eight innings in the Angels’ 6-1 victory Saturday at Anaheim, Calif.

Dickson (13-5) walked one and struck out six for his fifth victory in six decisions.

“I felt pretty good. The three runs in the first made it easier,” Dickson said. “That doesn’t let you cruise, but you can make the pitches you want to without being afraid of making a mistake.”

Boston rookie Nomar Garciaparra beat out a grounder for an infield single in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.

David Justice, who went 4 for 5, homered for the second straight game and seventh time in 14 games.
