Cheney Weeder Adopts New Name

From Staff And Wire Reports

An 87-year-old Spokane manufacturing company is changing its name on Sept. 1.

Cheney Weeder, which used to make agricultural tilling equipment, will now be known as Metalite Industries.

“We’re not in Cheney anymore and we don’t make weeders anymore,” said Sales and Marketing Director Sean McKenzie, to explain the name change.

The company, which moved to 1805 W. Fourth in 1956, makes combine reels, snowmobile trailers, utility trailers and pontoon boats.

“It keeps us busy all year long,” McKenzie said.

The 15-employee company generated sales of $1.5 million last year. , DataTimes
