Mother, Daughter Died In Fatal Crash

A mother and her daughter who died Friday in a car crash on U.S. Highway 2 have been identified as Rae Marie Fries, 42, of Spokane, and 12-year-old Jeannie R. Fries.

The two died at the scene of massive injuries after their 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity collided with a pickup truck towing a 27-foot houseboat, the Washington State Patrol said.

Fries was headed east on Highway 2 just west of the Spokane International Airport when she crashed into a Dodge truck in the westbound lane at about 6:45 p.m.

Paul J. Miller, 70, of Pinehurst, Idaho, who was driving the truck, was not injured. His wife, Char L. Miller, 47, suffered a fractured back and multiple contusions. She was taken to Deaconess Medical Center, where she was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday afternoon.
