Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Thank you for the many helpful hints that you have published to make life a little easier doing the mundane tasks of life.

It’s time to wash sheer curtains in my home and somehow I remember seeing a “recipe” using Epsom salts to restore crispness to the fabric. Would you kindly repeat that hint in the near future? Thank you in advance for your response. Florence Schmitke, The Dalles, Ore.

You bet. I’d be happy to repeat this great timesaver for you and other readers who keep asking for this old-fashioned hint. The directions are easy too!

Wash the curtains following the directions on the care label exactly. Next, dissolve 1 cup Epsom salts in a sinkful of cool water, making sure all the material is wet. The last step is to gently lift the curtains out and hang them to dry. Voila! The curtains will be crisp like new when completely dry. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: The nylon scrubbers I use with moisturizing body washes were accumulating soap and dead skin. I throw mine into a lingerie bag and toss it in the washer with a load that requires bleach. I don’t put it in the dryer but hang it back in the shower. - Sandra Benson, Tustin, Calif.
