Educator To Join Asarco’s Board

New York-based mining company Asarco has added a new member to its board of directors.

Manuel Pacheco, president-elect of the University of Missouri, was elected to the board on Thursday.

Pacheco has been the president of the University of Arizona since 1991 and will begin at M.U. today.

Asarco, which has extensive mining operations in North Idaho’s Silver Valley, owns half of Silver Valley Resources with Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp. Silver Valley Resources Corp. operate the Coeur and Galena mines near Wallace.

The company also announced a quarterly dividend on its common stock of 20 cents per share payable Sept. 2. In 1996, Asarco had sales of $2.7 billion.
