Onrushing Eagles Turn Back Blackhawks

West Valley continued its surge and Cheney its mini-swoon in Frontier League baseball Tuesday.

Kevin Risley’s run-scoring single in the fifth inning tied the game at 4, and Dustin Howe followed with a sacrifice fly to lead the Eagles (8-6) over visiting Cheney 6-4. WV has won six of its last seven games.

Jason Phillipe struck out four and outdueled Tucker Urdahl, who beat the Eagles 12-2 earlier in the year. League-leading Cheney opened the year 10-0 but has dropped three straight since then.

Norm Kruse went 3 for 3 with two RBIs as the Bantams (8-5) beat the visiting Knights (8-7) to jump into second place, two games behind Cheney.

Clarkston, swept by EV earlier in the year, turned three double plays. J.D. Burns struck out four and allowed just three hits after the first inning.

Colville (7-5), West Valley and East Valley are bunched right behind Clarkston in the standings.

WV’s Rachelle Watson went 4 for 5 and cleared the bases with a fourth-inning double. WV has outscored Pullman 80-0 this year.

Pass, EV’s scoring leader, reached 11 goals.

Cheney’s Ryan Waller was credited with a score when Paul Malisani’s throw-in deflected off a defender into the goal.
