Post Falls Girls Outsmart Field
Four Post Falls girls have their sights set on the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals.
Their team from Ponderosa Elementary School took first place in their category in the recent state competition, meaning they qualified to join about 5,000 other students at the finals, to be held June 4-7 in Maryland.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that challenges students to solve problems with creativity, logic and teamwork.
In the state competition, the Ponderosa team competed in the “Can You Dig It” problem, which required them to recreate scenes by interpreting the use of ancient artifacts.
Coach Kathie O’Brien said other teams in Post Falls also did well, but her group is the only one there planning to go to the World Finals. They have just a few weeks to raise the money to send the four girls and two chaperones.

The teammates are Kasey O’Brien, Sara Treat, Amy Rasmussen and Hilary Schauer.
Schools from Coeur d’Alene, Rathdrum and Plummer also fielded teams in the state competition. , DataTimes
