Jagr Expects To Play
Jaromir Jagr, bothered by a groin injury for nearly two months, says he’ll play in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Eastern Conference playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jagr sat out regular-season ending games against Florida and Boston. He played in only five of the Penguins’ last 24 games and wasn’t very effective when he did play.
Detroit Red Wings fans won’t be allowed to bring octopi into the Joe Louis Arena during the playoffs, ending a long-standing National Hockey League tradition.
The eight legs of the octopi represent the number of playoff wins a team needed to capture the Stanley Cup when the league consisted of six teams in the 1940s.
The policy coincides with a new NHL rule that prohibits fans from throwing objects on the ice. The Red Wings can be assessed a two-minute delay of game penalty each time any objects are thrown.
